Tartu is Estonia's heart & soul. The 2-nd largest city in Estonia, home to one of Northern Europe's oldest universities, Tartu is also considered the intellectual capital of the country.
August & the 1-st part of September are the best timing for visiting South Estonia & Tartu. Here you can experience "all-inclusive- atmosphere of the pre-fall" - harvesting time, apples, rowan & viburnum ripen, delicious smell of mushrooms & berries in the deep forests, crowded onion markets on the shores of the lake Peipus, early sunsets over "the Moter-river" Emajogi , relief low clouds of unusual shapes, that never cease their celestial spectacle, mysterious haze of fogs, heavy showers with thunder, lightning & hail & amazing air of the pre-fall which seems to have absorbed everything that I wrote about above.
In this tour we invite you to Tartu and the shores of Europe’s 5-th largest lake– lake Peipus and its biggest island Piirissaar – Natura 2000 site included in the Ramsar Convention. There you will learn the story of Estonian Old Believers, which are an essential part of Tartu’s historical background and cultural landscape, enjoy the magnificent untouched nature of the Peipsiveere Nature Reserve and try local fish- and onion delicacies.
