The Beauty Inside
Nature in museums and botanical gardens
Tallinn (The Kumu Art Museum, Kadriorg Museum, Mikkeli Museum – The Tallinn Botanical Garden)
Riga (Latvian National Museum of art – Salaspils Botanic Garden)
Kaunas (M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art – Botanical Garden of Vytautas Magnus University)
Best timing: Winter – March
Winter is the season when the weather often doesn’t cooperate. We can’t take long walks outside, but we can travel in Baltic nature without leaving museum buildings, where magnificent landscapes come alive in the paintings of talented artists.
In our guidebook to this route, we give an overview of the Baltic art and notable artists, especially landscape painters and national epic illustrators, as well as the list of their creations exhibited in museums. If you need a deeper knowledge about the Baltic art, we recommend you a guided tour. Prices and contacts are included in our guidebook.
Greenhouses of the Baltic botanic gardens provide refuge from winter slush and cold and delight the eye with abundance of tropic greenery. Visiting botanic gardens is a detour to the summer during a harsh Baltic winter. You can find all information about the gardens in our guidebook.
If you would like to extend your stay in the Baltics, you can complete your trip plan with our other Winter routes, for example, Druskininkai SPA-retreat in Lithuania. The distance between this route’s final destination Kaunas and Druskininkai is 130 km, around 2 hours driving.
