Birdwatching weekends
Birdwatching weekends
The Baltics are a birdwatching paradise. Each year hundreds of thousands of migratory birds visit the Baltic countries in spring and autumn. It seems that there are more birdwatching spots than birds! The thing is that the Baltic countries lie along the East Atlantic Flyway – one of the world’s largest migratory routes for birds traveling between North America, Europe and Africa.
For your birdwatching weekends we’ve carefully selected 3 birdwatching spots in UNESCO Man and Biosphere reserve, National and Regional parks in each Baltic country. For your convenience we provide a guidebook to your birdwatching destination with practical tips about accommodation, eateries on the route, the best bird hosting areas and, of course, birds you can meet.
If you would like to extend your stay in the Baltics, you can complete your program with our other Spring Specials or order an individual trip design from Baltics Undiscovered.
Welcome birdwatching with Baltics Undiscovered!

Slitere birdwatching weekend
We invite you to start your birdwatching in Riga ZOO, that is one of our most favourite in Europe. The ZOO is specialized on preservation of rare and endangered animal species. Here you can see birds that you are unlikely to meet in the wild.
On the second day of you weekend you will continue birding in the wild, in Slitere Nation Park in West Latvia.
Slītere National Park lies along the Baltic migratory flyway, making Slītere one of the best places in Latvia for birdwatching. For example, its sea shore is a stopover in late Autumn for the bar-tailed godwit on its way south from the northern tundra, the great grey owl migrates here from Russia in winter. Virtually all species of bird found in Latvia have been observed in Slītere, as many as 60,000 birds per hour have been observed flying over during the spring and fall migrations.
If you would like to extend your stay in Latvia and are planning your visit for May, you can complete your program with our Spring Special – “Weekend in a blooming garden”. Abundance of species, colours and emotions is guaranteed!
